This will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first international game since they traveled to London to play the Minnesota Vikings in 2013. The NFL has granted the Steelers worldwide marketing rights in three places, including Dublin, Ireland, where they are scheduled to play in 2025, according to several sources.
Raidi Teilif s ireann claims that Croke Park, not Aviva Stadium, will host the Steelers’ first NFL regular season game in Ireland. Additionally, sources tell PennLive that the Green Bay Packers will probably be the opponent in this game.
“The Government was briefed today on the proposal to bring a Pittsburgh Steelers fixture to GAA Headquarters, so it appears that Croke Park will host Ireland’s first NFL game later this year,” writes M Chel Lehane. The government hopes to make an announcement by the weekend, in time for Sunday’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, even though no contracts have been signed yet.
Although negotiations are still ongoing, it appears that these will be resolved shortly. Croke Park can accommodate up to 82,300 people and has been there since 1884.
In 1997, the Steelers and Chicago Bears played a preseason game at this location. They prevailed 30–17.
The Steelers’ intention to play an international match in Ireland has not wavered, according to team president Art Rooney II.
We’re looking forward to playing another game in Ireland soon. We played in a preseason game back in the 1990s. We anticipate that our next match in Ireland will most likely be a regular-season match. And who knows? Rooney stated in March of last year that one of these years might be approaching shortly.
The Steelers will be able to play abroad in 2025 since they will have nine home games. Former team president Dan Rooney served as Barack Obama’s ambassador to Ireland, which has remained a significant location for the Rooney family.
