A couple from Jefferson City has been charged with stealing firearms and fleeing from authorities after a high-speed chase. The theft took place in Cole County on August 27, when 13 guns were stolen from a home in Centertown.
The homeowner reported that the guns were taken from a gun safe located in his garage.
Detectives investigating the case reviewed surveillance footage from the neighborhood, which showed a suspicious car near the victim’s home. The vehicle was later identified as belonging to Kami Breeding, a resident of Jefferson City.
Breeding’s boyfriend, Jason Moore, was also seen in the car. Authorities noted that Moore has a long history of theft-related crimes.
On September 1, deputies spotted the couple in the same vehicle in Jefferson City, near West Truman Boulevard and Country Club Drive. When deputies attempted to stop the car, Moore, who was driving, sped away, leading authorities on a dangerous high-speed chase.
The pursuit reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on Highway 50 and Highway 54/63, heading toward New Bloomfield. Despite the chase, deputies lost sight of the couple.
Later that day, their abandoned car was found on the campus of Lincoln University. The following day, September 2, Jason Moore was charged with resisting arrest and careless driving, while authorities issued a statewide warrant for his arrest.
