Columbia Man Faces 10 Years in Prison for Federal Gun Charges

A man from Columbia, Shaune Aaron Price, has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to federal gun charges.

The sentencing took place on Tuesday, and the Department of Justice confirmed the details in a press release.

Shaune Price, 36, pleaded guilty last year, on November 7, 2023, to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Price had a criminal history, making it illegal for him to have guns.

The charges against Price stem from an incident on December 31, 2021, when a shooting took place in West Columbia. After the incident, Price was wanted by the authorities for his involvement.

He was eventually arrested several months later in Jefferson City. The police stopped a Greyhound bus that Price was riding, and during the arrest, they found a gun in his possession.

Further investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) revealed that the gun found with Price was linked to other criminal events. The ATF used its National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to connect the firearm to three specific shootings.

These included a shooting that happened outside a bar in Downtown Columbia on November 6, 2021, and another one on October 31, 2021, also in Downtown Columbia. The gun was also involved in the December 31 shooting in West Columbia, the event that led to Price’s arrest.

Price’s sentence is part of the federal government’s effort to crack down on gun-related crimes, especially in cases involving repeat offenders.

The Department of Justice has been working with local law enforcement to address violent crime and prevent shootings in the Columbia area.
