The majority of the time, men are listed as the most wanted fugitives in Texas. But one Brazoria County lady, accused of killing her husband, is listed as a most wanted fugitive.
As of right now, Margaret Lorrain Smith is the Texas Department of Public Safety’s most wanted woman. For capital murder, she is wanted at the moment. She is a 65-year-old Caucasian woman who weighed 185 pounds, stood 5’6″ and 48 at the time of her arrest. A mole on the lower right eyelid is one of the distinguishing features. Angleton, Texas, was the last known location of her.
Smith was accused of hiring a guy to kill her husband George Smith back on August 6, 2007. According to law enforcement investigations, Smith took her spouse to Surfside Beach, Texas, on a ruse. The man she hired to kill George battered him to death with a metal weapon after she left him sitting in the beach late at night. In September 2007, Smith and the person who killed George Smith were charged with capital murder. While Smith has not been tried and has been at large since August 11, 2009, when she ran away from Brazoria County while on bond awaiting trial, Dylan James Laughrey was found guilty in November 2008.
She was last shown on camera driving a maroon sedan at a Walmart in San Antonio.
Smith is regarded as dangerous and armed.
For information that results in Margaret Smith’s arrest, Texas Crime Stoppers and Brazoria County Crime Stoppers are each offering rewards of up to $7,500 and $5,000, respectively. You are welcome to submit a tip here if you know anything regarding Margaret Smith’s whereabouts.
