The wrongful death case of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been dismissed in Florida. Haskins’ wife Kalabrya’s lawyer, Rick Ellsley, released a statement Thursday morning.
The parties agreed settlements and the matter was dismissed.
In the statement, Ellsley stated, “The wrongful death case has now been closed as all of the settlements that were obtained have now been paid.”
Haskins died in April 2022 after being hit by a dump truck on a highway in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He and his buddies were in Florida for training. Haskins was 24 years old when he passed away.
In 2023, the Haskins family received a partial compensation from the truck’s owner, driver, and broker. According to the lawsuit, the dump truck was being driven carelessly.
The Washington Commanders selected Haskins in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He joined the Steelers in 2021 and spent the majority of the season as the team’s second quarterback.
Haskins, a standout at Ohio State, had a breakthrough season in 2018 and was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. He passed for 2804 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions during his two years in Washington.
