At 6:05 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated weather notice for Northern Clinton, Northern Center, Southern Center, Northern Lycoming, Southern Clinton, and Southern Lycoming counties, as well as Tioga and Sullivan counties, indicating heavy snow through 6:45 a.m.
“At 6:03 a.m., a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from 12 miles southwest of Canton to 16 miles northwest of Williamsport to near Jersey Shore to near Lock Haven to 10 miles north of Bellefonte and moving east at 35 MPH,” according to the meteorological service.
Lock Haven, Jersey Shore, Mill Hall, Avis, Dunnstown, Flemington, Duboistown, Castanea, Blanchard, McElhattan, Kettle Creek Gorge, Waterville, Ralston, Trout Run, Lincoln Falls, Barbours, Shunk, and Cogan Station are among the places affected by the alert. For drivers on Interstate 80, this encompasses the vicinity of mile marker 150, which is between the Snow Shoe and Loganton exits, and Interstate 180, which is between mile markers 17 and 29.
“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service continues. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive through or into this area of deep snow, proceed with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
