At 6:38 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued an updated forecast predicting significant snowfall in Northern Wayne through 7:30 p.m.

“At 6:36 p.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Willowemoc to Equinunk and moving southeast at 35 MPH,” according to the weather service.

Rockland, Fallsburg, Monticello, Liberty, Bethel, Damascus, Neversink, South Fallsburg, Callicoon, and Cochecton are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: Interstate 86/Route 17 between 94 and 114.

“If you have to travel into or through this area of heavy snow, exercise extra caution,” the weather service cautions. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
