PALERMO, Calif. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials reported that the shooter died from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot after two children were injured in a shooting Wednesday at a tiny, religious K–8 school in Northern California.
The conditions of the children were not immediately known. The Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists, a private K–8 institution in Palermo, a 5,500-person city roughly 65 miles north of Sacramento, was the scene of the shooting on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Butte County Sheriff Kory L. Honea, the 911 calls described a gunman who had fired rounds at students on campus, but the perpetrator did not seem to be connected to the school. He added that the motivation was not immediately apparent.
According to Honea, one pupil was transported by air to a neighboring hospital.
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities hurried youngsters to the Oroville Church of the Nazarene so they could be reunited with their families.
According to its website, the school has been in operation since 1965 and serves fewer than three dozen students.
