A traffic shift on Route 322 that was supposed to be finished this week at the project to rebuild the intersection of Route 322 with Grayson Road and Chambers Hill Road in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, has been postponed until after the first of the year, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
According to a news release, the contractor was supposed to move and reset the barrier and paint lines this week in order to transfer eastbound and westbound Route 322 traffic to the south so that work on the north side of the highway could be completed. However, this work is now anticipated to be finished the week of Monday, January 6 due to weather-related delays.
Lane restrictions will be implemented on eastbound and westbound Route 322 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, January 6, through Thursday, January 9, weather permitting.
There will be limitations on eastbound traffic from Witmer Road east of the new jughandle. Restrictions on westbound traffic will start west of Kunkle Avenue.
Two 11-foot lanes will be open in each way after the shift is over.
When driving through the work zone, drivers should be attentive and cautious.
This project is a component of the building of the Swatara Township crossroads of Route 322 with Grayson Road and Chambers Hill Road.
Left-turn lanes on Route 322 are being removed as part of the reconstruction of the signalized crossroads with Grayson Road and Chambers Hill Road (Route 3006) to four approaches.
Route 322 will have one through lane installed in each direction. At Witmer Road, the new jug handle and signal will take the place of the eastbound Route 322 left turns. At the intersection of Milroy Road and Grayson Road, westbound Route 322’s left turns will be replaced with a new roundabout and bypass lanes.
Three retaining walls will be built to handle the geometry and expansion, along with enhanced pavement markings, guiderails, drainage, stormwater management basins, dynamic message signs, and other miscellaneous work.
The anticipated completion date of this project is August 18, 2027. On this $38,561,349 project, the prime contractor is J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pennsylvania.
