Early on Saturday, three vehicles from Lemoyne entered Interstate 83 via an exit ramp, traveling north in the southbound lanes toward Harrisburg.

One motorist turned around after noticing. Fritzi Schreffler, a spokesman for PennDOT, said the other two drivers proceeded for about two miles until colliding close to the Paxton Street overpass.

According to her, the collision happened at around 1:30 a.m. and reportedly caused a tractor trailer driver traveling south to swerve off the road in order to avoid the approaching cars.

According to Schreffler, no injuries were reported to PennDOT.

Until three in the morning, the collision at exit 45 closed the freeway.

The collision occurs two months after a tragic overnight wrong-way collision on I-83.

Glenn Wiley, 82, of Manchester Township, was struck by a tractor-trailer at mile marker 11.9 in Springfield Township when he entered the roadway in the incorrect direction, according to the police.

The collision happened on October 8 around 12:10 a.m.

After being brought to a hospital, Wiley’s health deteriorated. After that, he was taken to a nursing home, where he passed away on Tuesday.

About fifteen miles from Wiley’s home, the collision happened on the divided highway. Since I-83 has no other entrances or exits, he was probably traveling in the wrong direction for at least a mile and a half prior to the collision.
