MOBILE, ALThe Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have a reliable quarterback on the roster going into the 2025 NFL Draft. According to team president Art Rooney II, the organization hopes to bring back either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, but even in that case, the emphasis would be on attempting to get the quarterback of the future.
Rooney recognized that the NFL Draft seems like a way for the team to try to fill that gap, which he sees as the team’s largest issue, either in 2025 or 2026.
Both of them are good quarterbacks, in my opinion, and I would rather sign one of them. That will thus be the top priority, and I believe that will provide us with the best chance to proceed, Rooney stated. Of course, we will also be examining the draft. There are unfilled positions in our quarterback room, so I wouldn’t be shocked if we also looked at the draft this year or the following year. Therefore, that must be the first priority.
Jalen Milroe of Alabama is the best quarterback at the 2025 Senior Bowl. Milroe, a two-time captain, will impress in interviews as a modest, independent leader who has demonstrated his intangible qualities.
But the question is the football tape itself. During his first Senior Bowl practice, Milroe struggled with processing and accuracy, just as he has during his time at Alabama. For Milroe to move up the draft boards, he will need to perform better.
But that could push him down boards for the Steelers. In a shallow quarterback class, Milroe’s live arm and agility provide a special combination that no other player in the Senior Bowl group possesses, and they could propel him to a Top-50 pick.
Jordan Palmer, Milroe’s quarterback coach, recently compared him to Lamar Jackson in an interview with Cleveland.com. This is a harsh comparison for someone with Milroe’s character.
Milroe, though, might be the solution if the Steelers wish to take an upside swing on Day 2. The question of whether Milroe’s timing aligns with the Steelers’ current atmosphere arises if he is injured.
