Susquehanna Township said in a news release on Saturday that it has started the process of finding a new football coach, and that Joe Headen will be involved, following the contentious decision to not extend the contract of longtime head coach Headen.
According to the announcement, the district has started a careful and methodical hiring process to choose the head football coach for the 2025–2026 campaign. We are happy to announce that Mr. Headen has consented to participate in this procedure.
We will make a recommendation at the end of our process, and we are taking the time required to make sure the best choice is selected. As we proceed with this significant endeavor, we value the community’s patience and support.
According to Headen’s confirmation to PennLive, this is in reference to his reapplying to be Hanna’s head coach.
Headen led Susquehanna Township to an 8-3 record in 2024 and won 132 games throughout his 23 years as head coach.
In addition, he teaches at Susquehanna Township, serves as the District 3 Director for the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association, and was named to the Big 33 coaching staff in 2025.
He also serves as the chair of the PSFCA’s recently established Minority Advisory Council.
Following a recent administrative transition in the athletic department, former CD East head football coach Lance Deane was appointed athletic director of Susquehanna Township.
