Tuesday night will mark the college decision of Pennsylvania’s most sought-after wrestling recruit since Spencer Lee in 2016.
Following the Crushers’ quarterfinal matchup with either Corry or McGuffey in the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships at the Johnstown-based institution, Bishop McCort standout wrestler Bo Bassett will make his selection from among Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Virginia Tech.
The winner of the Corry-McGuffey match takes on McCort at seven o’clock. The contest starts at five o’clock. Flowrestling will webcast Bassett’s announcement live. Although there isn’t a set start time, it’s probably safe to start between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
With his college decision and the possibility that McCort, rated No. 2 nationally, will play No. 1-ranked Faith Christian in the PIAA team finals at Altoona Area High School on Saturday, Bassett stated Monday morning on Flo Radio Live that this is a big week for him.
Bassett, a junior with a lifetime record of 109-0, took home the PIAA individual title as a sophomore the previous season. During Bassett’s rookie season, McCort was ineligible to participate in PIAA events. Before joining the collegiate levels, he will be a strong bet to win three PIAA titles. When Bassett starts college in the fall of 2026, he will be 19 years and nine months old, having turned 18 in January.
Speaking on the live Flo show, Bassett stated the hiring process has been amazing. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was enjoyable, but it has been harder than I ever imagined. I had spent my entire life working toward it.
Regarding the season, I have a lot of important things coming up, and instead of juggling them all, I would like to concentrate more on training properly and be more certain about where I’m going to put my all into that location and then my training as well.
On Monday, Bassett announced his final four, ruling out Ohio State, Michigan, and Rutgers. In addition to visiting all seven colleges, he and his family attended a number of games, including the Penn State vs. Iowa game, the Penn State vs. Rutgers game, and a recent Oklahoma State game.
Though he projects at 149 in college and possibly a weight higher, Bassett has competed at a several lineup slots based on McCort’s needs during a certain match.
He expressed an intriguing opinion about NIL money, stating that while he is aware that wrestling would never be able to match college football in terms of financial incentives, the proposals made by his four finalists were comparable.
NIL is undoubtedly a component of it. But Bassett stated, “I’m more focused on the wrestling.” I can tell you that all of the offers have been quite equivalent, but I still want to accomplish all of my objectives and do this and that. I can’t wait to start working and get this out there once more.
