Eagles sprinting backAfter topping the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards, Saquon Barkley is expected to win several honors in the upcoming weeks. The first one was given to him on Saturday when the Pro Football Writers of America named him the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Barkley joined Terrell Davis, who won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 1998 after running for 2,008 yards, as the ninth player in NFL history to dash for more than 2,000 yards and only the second to win a postseason game after doing so. In order to surpass Davis’s record for the most rushing yards in both the regular season and the postseason, Barkley needs to score 98 yards against the Washington Commanders on Sunday in the NFC Championship.

Barkley was selected to the PFWA All-NFL and All-NFC Teams after playing with the Giants for his first six seasons before joining the Eagles. Inside linebacker Zack Baun, defensive tackle Jalen Carter, guard Landon Dickerson, and tackle Lane Johnson joined him on the NFC squad.

The Eagles’ first two picks in the 2024 draft, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, were selected as the PFWA’s All Rookie cornerbacks. Additionally, they are finalists for the Defensive Rookie of the Year title from the Associated Press.

In addition to Baun, Barkley is a finalist for the AP’s Defensive Player of the Year award and the AP’s MVP and Offensive Player of the Year accolades. During Super Bowl week in New Orleans, the AP honors will be revealed.
