The Food and Drug Administration announced a voluntary recall of 9,600 pounds of Blue Ridge Beef’s 2 lb. Puppy Mix dog food.
The dog food is being recalled because it contains salmonella, as was announced on November 27. After a customer’s puppies were ill and informed the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, or VDCAS, of the problem, the contamination was found.
According to the statement, humans who handle infected pet goods run the danger of contracting salmonella, particularly if they haven’t properly cleaned their hands after coming into contact with the products or any surfaces that may have come into contact with them.
Symptoms of an infection in pets might include vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. Animals may also have fever, stomach pain, and a decreased appetite in addition to being lethargic. Customers are advised to get in touch with their pet’s veterinarian if their pet has taken the recalled product and is exhibiting similar symptoms.
This year, the impacted products were shipped between August 6–23. Stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York carried them in clear plastic.
The impacted product’s lot number is 08/06/N25 or 08/16/N25, and its UPC code is 85429800169.
If impacted by this recall, consumers are advised to take the following actions:
