Following the band’s announcement that it would be canceling its Australian tour due to frontman Deryck Whibley’s health issues, fans of the well-known rock group Sum 41 are sending prayers their way.
In a statement posted to the Good Things Festival Instagram page, the band revealed the information. Sum 41 was scheduled to co-headline the event, according to PEOPLE Magazine.
“We regret to inform you that we are unable to proceed with our 2024 Australian tour,” the message said. We couldn’t have been more thrilled to offer this tour from December 4–12 and reconnect with our Australian supporters. However, now that we’re here and being monitored by several Australian physicians, it’s evident that Deryck is too ill to perform.
The statement went on to say, “We’re devastated too, and we understand and appreciate your disappointment.”
According to PEOPLE, Whibley’s health forced Sum 41 to postpone their performance in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall on December 4.
The band told Rolling Stone at the time, “Unfortunately, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s show in Brisbane due to Deryck being diagnosed with pneumonia.” The best local care is being given to him.
According to PEOPLE, Whibley was admitted to the hospital in September of last year due to pneumonia and the potential for heart failure, which is the continuation of a concerning health trend.
According to PEOPLE, Sum 41 is nearing the conclusion of its tenure, with its final performance scheduled for January 30, 2025, in Toronto. The band, which was founded in 1994, declared its dissolution in 2023.
