The Schuylkill County distribution location of Big Lots is closing.

The bargain store notified the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification that 505 employees would be let go from 50 Rausch Creek Road in Tremont Township, Schuylkill County. The layoffs will start on January 6 and end on March 31.

The distribution center’s closure comes after Big Lots said last week that it does not expect to finish the asset sale it had previously announced with Nexus Capital Management and that going-out-of-business sales would start at all 909 of its remaining stores, including 64 in Pennsylvania. Earlier this year, hundreds of Big Lots locations, including one in York County, had closed. Big Lots is still trying to sell the business to Nexus or another company by the beginning of January. In September, the retailer declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The closing sales are being held by Gordon Brothers, a joint venture with Tiger Capital Group and Hilco Consumer-Retail. On Monday, Gordon Brothers declared that the sales had begun.

Gordon Brothers also revealed that it will be managing Party City’s closing sales at its almost 700 locations nationwide. On Monday, the business declared that such sales had also started.

A federal law known as the WARN Act requires companies to give notice sixty days prior to a covered business closing or a covered business mass layoff, protecting employees, their families, and communities. There are a few exceptions, though.
