In their NFC divisional playoff matchup with the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday at 3 p.m., the Eagles have a lot on the line. In addition to competing for a spot in the NFC championship game, a victory would allow them to host the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles also had to deal with the weather in order to defeat the Rams.
A precipitation system passing through the Philadelphia region is predicted to dump 4 to 6 inches of snow throughout the I-95 corridor, including Lincoln Financial Field, according to a National Weather Service briefing. As a result, a winter storm warning has been issued for the area. The game will be impacted by the snow, which is expected to start in the late morning and last all night.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall occurs between 4 and 9 PM, when snowfall rates may reach or surpass 1 inch per hour. The precipitation goes from the late morning into the early afternoon.
According to Nick Guzzo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the main precipitation around kickoff will be snow, with temperatures hanging around the freezing point of 32 degrees.
Guzzo stated, “We anticipate snow accumulation during the game.” If we were to highlight one thing, it would be that we begin to notice some of the greater snowfall rates later this afternoon and into the evening.
As the storm passes across the area, wind may potentially become an issue late in the game, however it will get stronger as spectators start to leave the stadium.
Throughout the game, we do see winds that are often 10 to 15 miles per hour from the northeast or north, Guzzo stated. We start to notice an increase in winds as the game is coming to an end. Around 7 or 8 p.m., in the middle to late evening, we would begin to witness gusts of 20 to 25 mph.
In addition to the fact that the Rams had to take a brief break after upsetting the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, the Eagles might have an advantage because the Rams will be playing in conditions that are different from what they are used to in Southern California.
Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Rams, has previously played in Philadelphia under comparable circumstances. He played in the 2013 Snow Bowl with the Detroit Lions, completing 10 of 25 passes for 151 yards, but the Lions lost 34–20.
Stafford is 1-8 overall with 14 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a 76.0 passer rating, and a 54.6 completion % in games played in the rain or snow.
Safety Reed Blankenship is one of the Eagles players who will be playing in snow for the first time.
According to Blankenship, this is a dream from childhood. In Alabama, we hardly experienced any snow, and I am ecstatic about it. Everyone will say things like, “It’s going to be cold,” and so on. I don’t give a damn. The coolest thing ever is that.
