Ward played with the Kansas City Chiefs for four years before spending the last three with the 49ers. The Pittsburgh Steelers, who will be 29 years old in 2025, may be looking to add a cornerback after club president Art Rooney II told Ashley Liotus of WTAE that the team needs a few defensive backs.
In addition to dealing with the loss of his daughter, Ward acknowledged that his partner had already left California prior to the 49ers’ season ending due to distressing memories. He also has his own memories, which will probably encourage him to leave California even more.
Ward told ESPN, “I have a lot of trauma in California.”I had many wonderful moments, but the worst thing that has ever occurred to me—and, perhaps, will happen to me again—took place in California. It can simply evoke unpleasant recollections. It only brings back unpleasant memories every time I board a plane to return to California, Santa Clara, San Jose, and arrive here.
Despite being selected to the second team of the All-Pro squad in 2023, Ward’s performance declined from 2024. He participated in 12 games without recording an interception. However, when targeted, Ward only let up a 52.3% catch percentage, indicating that his coverage abilities are still very much in place.
