This past weekend in Toronto, Sum 41’s nearly 30-year relationship came to an end.
The 1996-formed band played a set of 29 songs that iHeart described as “career-spanning” as they concluded their farewell performance.
According to reports, Deryck Whibley, the frontman of Sum 41, decided two years ago that the band should start disbanding.
We’re saying farewell tonight,” Whibley posted on Instagram. What a life. What a journey. What a crazy time. I went from being a high school band that succeeded to conquering the globe and realizing all of my dreams. I wouldn’t alter a second of it, even though it has been heaven, hell, and everything in between.
He added, “My life has had so many highs that it’s almost felt undeserving at times.” The majority of the low points have been extensively chronicled. But so far, this journey has taught me a few things. Without the lows, the highs simply don’t feel as nice. And I wouldn’t be the person I am now if I hadn’t overcome the low points.
According to Whibley, life is interesting because of the difficult times.
He went on to say that we wouldn’t develop, learn, or get stronger if we lived our lives without ever facing challenges. I’m really excited about growth and change, and I’m eager to see where life will take me. Right now, I just worry about the things that I can control and let life unfold as it should.
According to Whibley, he has no idea what awaits me in the upcoming chapter.
He went on to say, “And I’m honestly not thinking about it yet.” All I can say is that I’m really pleased with how this plot has developed thus far. Right now, all I can think about is spending my last show giving the city I love everything I have.
Whibley just posted “thank you” after the show.
Perhaps Sum 41’s most well-known track is “Fat Lip,” and their 2001 album “All Killer No Filler” achieved platinum status in both the US and the UK.
