Dominque Brown, an influencer, collector, and fan of Disney parks, passed away on December 5 at a Christmas food event in Los Angeles, allegedly from a food allergy. Brown was thirty-four.
In Los Angeles, the retailer BoxLunch held an event at the historic Vibiana cathedral. According to TheBlastandPeople, Brown allegedly consumed food after being assured that it didn’t contain an element to which she was allergic.
At the event, a People reporter saw Brown receiving CPR and later found out that 911 was contacted right away. According to NBC, the event’s DJ stopped playing music and started asking if anyone had an EpiPen.
Sadly, Brown was unable to attend. As word spread about the event and her untimely death, social media was flooded with support. According to a member on X who says she knows Brown, she felt awful right away and begged to be transported to the hospital.
She was my mother’s ten-year best friend. According to the post, when she inquired if there were peanuts in the food, everyone said that there weren’t. She asked someone to drive her to the hospital when she started feeling ill.
In a comment on her most recent Instagram photo, Brown’s brother Patrick Ramos talked further about her love of Disney and thanked other users for their encouragement.
Hi there, this is Dominique’s brother, @pramos313. Ramos wrote, “I wanted to take a moment to thank her social media family for showing her so much love and light.” Disney did make her happy, but she had never encountered a community that shared her passion for the company. My sister, best friend, and her contagious smile will be missed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Brown led the development of the Black Girl Disney account, which she managed with creator Mia Von, and amassed a following of 21,000 on her personal Instagram. More than 20,000 people followed that account.
For other Black Disney influencers looking for a community in a largely white market, Black Girl Disney was created.
Brown’s influence on the black Disney community was described in depth in one of the comments posted on his Instagram.
Read the comment and thank you, Dominique, for uniting the Black Girl Disney community. Whether you are in person or on TV, you are such a light.
Several outlets referenced a statement from BoxedLunch expressing their condolences to Brown’s family and friends and describing her as a cherished member of the BoxedLunch collective, the brand’s ambassador program.
In a statement, BoxLunch said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends, and we will do everything in our power to support them, the BoxLunch Collective, and our team during this difficult time.”
Both Vibiana and BoxedLunch are reportedly undertaking investigations, according to NBC.
