Ten years have passed since the divorce of pop artist and actress Jessica Simpson and her husband, former NFL tight end Eric Johnson.
PEOPLE Magazine was the first to hear the news from Simpson.
She told the website, “Eric and I have been living apart while dealing with a difficult situation in our marriage.” We are concentrating on what is best for our children because they are our first priority. As we work through this as a family, we value privacy and are thankful for all of the love and support that has been shown to us.
Following months of rumors that the couple was on the outs, the news was finally revealed.
Around the same time that Simpson hinted at a comeback to music in November, Johnson was spotted out without his wedding band, according to PEOPLE.
According to the website, Simpson, 44, and Johnson, 45, were wed in 2014 and have three kids: Ace Knute, 11, Birdie Mae, 5, and two daughters, Maxwell Drew, 12. In 2010, they started dating.
The San Francisco 49ers selected Johnson in the seventh round, 224th overall, of the 2001 NFL Draft after he played collegiately at Yale. After playing for the team until 2006, he joined the New Orleans Saints for a season.
Over his career, he caught 240 passes for 2,178 yards and nine touchdowns.
