During a police pursuit along Route 22 in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, a man was hurt when he crashed his SUV Monday morning, according to state police.
The State Police of PennsylvaniaTroops were notified at 11:30 a.m. in Fogelsville that a guy who had been trying to hurt himself was traveling from New Jersey into Pennsylvania. According to police, troopers attempted to stop him after spotting him driving west in an SUV.
The driver continued, eventually veering off the highway and onto back roads before heading back to Route 22. According to Nathan Branosky, the public relations officer for the Troop M barracks, the SUV struck trees off the highway and caught fire in the township’s westbound lanes.
Branosky had no idea how quickly the driver had been traveling.
During the collision, the driver was hurt after being flung from the SUV. According to state police, he also hurt himself. He was brought to Salisbury Township’s Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. On Tuesday morning, his condition was not immediately available.
Traffic was backed up for several hours on Monday due to the collision.
Until the inquiry is finished, it is unknown if the driver will be charged, Branosky stated.
