On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that veteran running back Jonathan Ward had been removed off the team’s active roster. Cornerback Cory Trice Jr. will probably occupy the place that becomes available on the active roster as a result of that trade.
The Steelers chose not to activate Trice, who has been training for the past three weeks, as he continues to recover from a seven-week absence due to a hamstring injury. Trice must be activated by Pittsburgh before practice tomorrow, and it appears that this will most likely occur.
After being selected in the seventh round from Purdue, Trice missed his rookie campaign due to an ACL tear. Before sustaining the hamstring strain, he had a great start to the season, even recording his first career interception against the Denver Broncos.
Ward will probably return to the team’s practice squad as a backup running back. Even as a vested veteran, he must, however, clear waivers because of the regulations following the trade deadline. The Steelers would have to cut someone from the practice squad if they wanted to bring him back.
