MOBILE, ALDefensive tackle Darius Alexander is attracting a lot of interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Alexander is scheduled to meet with Steelers deputy general manager Andy Weidl on Thursday evening, according to Devin Jackson of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Alexander had dominated for the majority of the three days in Mobile, according to Weidl’s conversation with him following practice.

Alexander, who was a star at Toledo and finished his career with a pick-six against Pitt in his final game, was a predicted third-round choice. Alexander combined that with 11 pass defensed, which is a quality the Steelers value, and that is representative of the player he is.

If the Steelers prefer to wait until the middle rounds rather than grabbing a first-round pick there, this could be the ideal range for them to acquire a defensive tackle because of his exceptional explosiveness as a pass rusher.

The Steelers appear to be planning to choose a defensive lineman early in this class, and Weidl is the most recent in a wave of interest in the position.
