According to his agent Brent Tessler, offensive tackle Doug Nester has been re-signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a reserve/future deal. The Steelers’ first known postseason acquisition is this one. Despite being on the team’s practice squad for the whole 2024 season, Nester was never promoted to play in a game.
Nester was a standout player at West Virginia, where he started at right tackle for several years. He was named to the All-Big 12 twice during his tenure there, but he was not selected in the draft. During his tenure with the Mountaineers, Nester started more than 50 games at right tackle. The Steelers sought his experience on the offensive line during the draft.
Nester was signed by the Steelers, but he was cut short after being signed by the Minnesota Vikings. In January, Nester went to the Shrine Bowl, where the 6-foot-7 lineman acknowledged that he had a lot to show but believed he was deserving of the invitation.
In an attempt to establish his ability to join the final team in 2025, Nester will now return for another season.
