Pittsburgh –Alex Highsmith, an outside linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, says he intends to play against the Cleveland Browns, but he still needs to clear a significant obstacle before he can play.
Although head coach Mike Tomlin stated on Tuesday that it sounded like Highsmith should return, Highsmith explained that the main obstacle had to do with the team he played for. Every time he bends around the arc, his left ankle bears the brunt of the pressure and tension since he charges from the right side of the defense.
In addition to being painful, that can make the injury worse. That is not what Highsmith desires. The team is therefore proceeding with caution. On Wednesday, he was still unable to carefully control Highsmith. Eventually, they will see if Highsmith can handle a full workload and assess his ability to work around the curve with little discomfort.
However, it is still possible that Highsmith will return, albeit in a more rotating role rather than as a complete starter, which could give Nick Herbig more playing time.
