The NFL Draft could be one option for the Pittsburgh Steelers to improve their wide receiver group this offseason. To address that problem, the Steelers selected Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka in Mel Kiper’s initial mock draft.

“The Steelers last selected a receiver in the first round in 2006, selecting Santonio Holmes at No. 25. Pittsburgh must end that run, though, unless free agency brings about a significant shift. This offense doesn’t have enough trustworthy pass catchers. The offense won’t get better until the Steelers, regardless of the quarterback, do anything there because they don’t have a reliable WR2 behind George Pickens.

In Monday’s victory in the national championship, Egbuka caught six catches for 64 yards, surpassing 1,000 yards for the season (1,011). Additionally, it became Egbuka’s second double-digit touchdown catch in the last three years (10). He would devour targets in the Steelers’ scheme and is a fantastic, quick route runner,” Kiper noted.

Alongside standout freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, Egbuka, a tremendously gifted wide receiver, took over as Ohio State’s go-to player.

The Steelers are hoping that Egbuka will reach them this cycle after he excelled in the NCAA football playoffs and helped his stock rise to that of a mid-first-round choice.
