Following his waiver claim, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson will be joining the Houston Texans. Johnson joins another contender after being waived by the Baltimore Ravens on Friday.
Tank Dell, a wide receiver with the Texans, suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him out of action for the remainder of the season. Johnson provides them with an additional danger that can diverge from Nico Collins. Additionally, it provides Johnson with a clear opportunity to recover and regain his worth before to free agency.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network claims that the Ravens were concerned that if they cut Johnson early, he would go back to the Steelers, and they might have to play him against them on Saturday. Instead, they held off on cutting him until Friday. The Texans have a higher waiver priority than the Steelers, though it is unclear if they filed a claim on Johnson.
Following Rashod Bateman’s injury, Johnson declined to play in the Ravens’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Ravens’ refusal to offer him a significant number of snaps in a contract year apparently infuriated him.
Shortly before the trade deadline, he was dealt from the Carolina Panthers. In March, the Panthers acquired Johnson from the Steelers.
