Many of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ subpar offenses from the previous five seasons will be replaced with their 2024 offense. They reverted to many of the same problems after offensive coordinator Arthur Smith was hired to alter the patterns. Actually, even the Matt Canada units never reached some of the low points this offensive did.
For starters, the Steelers have never been held to 17 points or fewer for four consecutive games while playing under Canada. For the first time since 2003, the Steelers offense has experienced a period of inefficiency. There have only been four other instances in the franchise’s history, some of which date back to the 1960s and 1950s, when football was at its worst.
Furthermore, the Steelers’ running game suffered significant setbacks. Due to Smith’s zone-heavy usage, the Steelers dropped to a bottom-five rushing team in all but volume last season, despite finishing as a top-10 rushing offensive in almost every measure as a gap-heavy squad.
Furthermore, turnover has grown to be a major problem. Ten games in a row, the Steelers have turned the ball over, marking the first such run in more than five seasons.
In their last four games, the Steelers offense has been restricted to less than 200 yards in two of those games. Nor was that ever done under Canada. Under Smith, Pittsburgh has produced two of its worst offensive performances in the previous 20 years.
Due in major part to a subpar offense, the Steelers have not maintained a lead throughout their losing streak. The Steelers are playing their poorest football of the year going into the playoffs, and they continue to establish low standards for the season.
