James Harrison, a legend of the Pittsburgh Steelers, expressed his desire to coach for the team and even contacted head coach Mike Tomlin, but he received no answer. Harrison watched the Cincinnati Bengals game live on Ben Roethlisberger’s podcast, Footbahlin’.
Harrison mentioned in the middle of the game that he wanted to coach for the Steelers, but he never received a response from Tomlin regarding that particular request.
Harrison remarked, “Let’s say I put a feeler out there, but I got no response.”
Harrison was a legend in the franchise’s history and the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year. But while he was in the NFL, he had no trouble coaching guys. He assisted a young T.J. Watt in the development of his routines and techniques, some of which are still captured on video.
Tomlin’s assistance to his players in a post-career coaching capacity is also not new. These days, Ryan Shazier and Vince Williams assist the Steelers every day as volunteers. Pittsburgh also served as a catalyst for William Gay’s coaching career in the past.
