The Pittsburgh Steelers may consider bringing back running back Najee Harris when he becomes a free agent. However, based on remarks made by team president Art Rooney II last week, it didn’t appear that the Steelers were too interested in having him return.

Harris’ contract in free agency is currently expected by Spotrac to be $27 million for a healthy three years. Harris would then tie New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson for ninth-highest running back salary in the NFL.

Since being selected in the draft out of Alabama, he has had four consecutive seasons with 1000 yards with the Steelers. Throughout the time, he is the only player that does that.

During those four years, Harris participated in every game and established himself as the Steelers’ bulwark of health and reliability despite some challenging years. His effectiveness, however, never materialized, largely because of poor offensive line play and strategy that didn’t improve over the course of the term.

Due to concerns about Harris’ compatibility with the offensive plan Arthur Smith would be bringing over from Atlanta, the Steelers rejected his fifth-year option in May.
