Pittsburgh –After missing three games, the Pittsburgh Steelers anticipate having outside linebacker Alex Highsmith return on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Late in the team’s victory over the Washington Commanders, 28–27, Highsmith sustained a serious low ankle injury.
Highsmith will start next to T.J. Watt, but since all four players are competent, the team will need to decide how to split the workload between Watt, Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and Preston Smith.
When he plays, Highsmith is on a roll, while Herbig and Watt lead the NFL in forced fumbles. The Steelers are preparing him for a full workload this week after he only participated in two sessions last week.
Watt, Highsmith, and Herbig will be playing together for the first time since Week 3, and the full unit with Smith will be playing for the first time as well. That prospect appeared to delight Tomlin, particularly while facing a small number of injured Browns offensive tackles.
