One of the front-runners to take the New York Jets’ open head coaching position this offseason is Arthur Smith, the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith has 25/1, the seventh-best odds to get the job, according to SportsBetting.Ag. Mike Vrabel, the former head coach of the Tennessee Titans, is the front-runner for the position.

Smith is probably going to be on head coach big boards this summer, according to a number of insiders, including Dianna Russini of the Athletic.

Smith’s versatility is yet another important asset. As the Steelers continue to develop their youthful offensive core around Russell Wilson, he has demonstrated that he can modify his scheme to accommodate the personnel he has. Russini added, “I anticipate Smith’s name coming up again during the head-coach hiring cycle in January.”

Smith coached the Atlanta Falcons for three seasons before losing his job in 2023 as a result of poor offensive performance and a collapse in the second half. Poor quarterback play during his tenure put him in a predicament, but the Falcons decided to let Smith go because of his lack of success.

At that point, Smith was interviewed by Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who showed interest in him. The Steelers recruited Smtih as their offensive coordinator before anybody else could hire him, and he has improved the majority of the offensive numbers.
