In order to improve their offense this summer, the Pittsburgh Steelers will turn to the NFL Draft and free agency. According to the most recent ESPN mock draft, they will travel to Columbus to accomplish this.
According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, the Steelers selected Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka in the first.
“If George Pickens’ rookie contract expires before the 2026 season, the Steelers should begin considering rebuilding their wide receiver room. Furthermore, the team could use a real No. 2 receiver right now, regardless of Pickens’ future. It would be wise to start by pairing Egbuka with Pickens and 2024 newcomer Roman Wilson, Miller noted.
Miller saw the selection of Judkins as a straight replacement for running back Najee Harris, who is expected to leave the team as a free agency.
It’s hardly a given that Najee Harris will return to Pittsburgh when he enters free agency. Judkins would be a perfect substitute. As demonstrated by his 28 runs of 10 yards or more, he possesses Harris’ downhill strength but the speed to tear off the chunk plays that the Steelers’ offense is lacking, Miller noted.
The Steelers’ emphasis still appears to be mostly on the defensive line, even though those two selections would strengthen an offense in need of quality. It is difficult not to see the team at least look at defensive line in these first two rounds, even though wide receiver in the first round is not crazy.
