For their game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers have added wide receiver Jamal Agnew to their active roster. Agnew will be making his debut on the active roster after more than a month on the team’s practice squad. Agnew will have an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities to the Steelers executive office as a punt and kick returner.

For the entire season, Pittsburgh’s kick return game has been totally stagnant.Among returners with more than ten returns this season, Cordarrelle Patterson ranks bottom in terms of yards per kick return.

Agnew spent the previous season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but his season was cut short due to a fractured leg. The Steelers invited him for a tryout in October before signing him a month later, but he wasn’t entirely healthy until September.

The 29-year-old Agnew made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and was named to the first team All-Pro in 2017. As a returner and offensive player, he has amassed 4392 return yards and 12 total touchdowns over his career.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, Agnew was selected in the fifth round from San Diego. He played cornerback with the Lions for the first four seasons of his career. He has since had greater success at wide receiver after the Jaguars moved him there. After switching positions, Agnew has a career total of 77 receptions for 746 yards.
