Luke Lilledahl has studied his work description and is aware of his responsibilities on the top-ranked Penn State wrestling team, despite the fact that he is a true freshman.
When Lilledahl defeated Iowa’s Joey Cruz by technical fall, he ignited the Nittany Lions’ 30-8 triumph over No. 2 Iowa. On his way to a 22-6 match stoppage in 6:43, he opened a 7-1 fight at 125 pounds with five takedowns in the third quarter. With each takedown, he made it appear simpler and increased the fervor of 15,998 spectators.
As a 25-pounder, it’s kind of my job to get the squad going, Lilledahl stated this week. It’s not difficult for this squad, though, because everyone is essentially free to do what they want. However, doing that is also enjoyable and helps everyone get off to a good start.
Every week, Penn State coach Cael Sanderson lavishes Lilledahl with praise. He added, “I mean, he’s a winner, that’s what he does.” There is no need for anyone to consider or discuss it. You shouldn’t worry too much about him because he will continue to improve each week.
A BOUNCE-BACK MATCH: On January 24, Lilledahl lost 4-1, his first of the season, after giving up a late takedown against Rutgers Dean Peterson. According to Lilledahl, that had no effect on his confidence.
“It’s just getting back on track,” he said, adding, “my mindset is the next match.” After Rutgers, I thought, “Well, what do I need to improve on?” in order to win the next tournament and, eventually, the nationals, which is my ultimate objective.
Not always accustomed to losing:Lilledahl hasn’t lost much in his career, having won the U-20 World and U-20 Pan Am championships, and been a state champion in Missouri before enrolling at Wyoming Seminary in northeastern Pennsylvania.
I didn’t lose that much when I was younger. Every time I wrestle, both with the wins and the defeats, I’m actually getting better. According to Lilledahl, the entire procedure has been essentially the same throughout his career. He also mentioned that since attending Penn State, his top riding abilities have increased.
Moreover, why did he visit PSU?Lilledahl was recruited by several colleges, but he chose State College because of the team mentality, he said.
He clarified that coaches and teammates alike advocate for growing and having fun rather than concentrating too much on victories and losses. That was one of the main reasons I came here, and I believe I made the right choice.
