For a large portion of the Lions’ regular season, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter was virtually unstoppable.

Not surprisingly, Carter was named the best defensive player in the Big Ten on Tuesday.

Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year went to the 6-3, 252-pound Carter.

Carter was the sole Penn State player selected to the first team All-Big Ten, recording 19.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

Shortly after winning defensive player of the year, Carter made an appearance on the Big Ten Network.

Third-year player Carter is thought to be among the best players available in the 2025 draft. Carter is ranked as the third player available for the draft by Dane Brugler of The Athletic.

Carter responded, “I’m focused on the season right now, I’m focused on the next game,” when asked about his plans for 2025. After the Big Ten title, we have the playoffs.

All other NFL-related information will be available later, following the season.

Carter also shared his opinion on the Big Ten championship game that will take place in Indianapolis on Saturday night between 12-0 Oregon and 11-1 Penn State.

According to Carter, this is the Big Ten championship.

In the Big Ten championship, you will only be competing against the best. They’re a fantastic squad, and I have a lot of respect for both the coaching staff and the team itself. Two outstanding teams will be competing.

Carter added that he doesn’t think it’s worth chasing big plays, even with all of the incredible numbers he generated during the regular season.

Carter, a 2023 first-team All-Big Ten linebacker, said, “I try to preach a lot that you don’t have to be Superman, you don’t have to always make the big play, and you don’t always have to be the one to try and make every play.”

Sometimes, when you just do your job, the play will come to you. Over the course of my three years here, I have learnt that.
