Penn State’s poor wide receiver performance has put pressure on James Franklin and position coach Marques Hagans. They will attempt to remedy it throughout this offseason’s highly aggressive transfer portal strategy. On that front, there is some encouraging preliminary information.
According to an early tip from Hayes Fawcett of On3, Florida International transfer wideout Eric Rivers is scheduled to visit Penn State on December 19 and 20. The story was virtually confirmed when a Rivers agent published a social media post containing it.
The FIU standout is also scheduled to visit Colorado, Nebraska, and Miami.
Rivers should meet Penn State’s requirements for a big-play-capable receiver who is extremely productive at any level. This season, he hauled in 62 passes for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns at an average of 18.9 yards per reception. He averaged 97.7 yards per game and caught 5.2 passes. In 2024, Rivers exceeded the century mark five times.
Rivers, a 5-11, 174-pound player from Chattanooga, Tennessee, is currently listed by 247Sports as the No. 11 wide receiver and No. 25 player overall in the country. He has previously transferred once, from Memphis, where he redshirted in 2022 due to injury after playing in just six games as a freshman in 2021.
Rivers caught 32 catches for 370 yards and two scores in 11 games at FIU in 2023.
At his next destination, he will still be eligible for another year.
