Less than a week after assisting Ohio State in winning the national title, Jim Knowles arrived at Penn State. The desired defensive coordinator had a number of options in the valuable days after the College Football Playoff championship.
Knowles had the option to sign a new contract and remain at Ohio State. According to reports, Oklahoma attempted to get him to leave Columbus. Following the NFL’s acquisition of Al Golden, Notre Dame expressed interest. However, Penn State prevailed, landing what is perhaps the best college football coordinator.
