A late-breaking flip was used by Penn State to add to its 2025 class just one day before the formal early signing window opens.
Three-star tight end Brian Kortovich used social media on Tuesday to declare his commitment to Penn State. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, at Villa Angela-St. Joseph, Kortovich had been a Purdue pledge since June 11.
This past weekend, Kortovich visited Penn State at the last minute for the Maryland game, and the Nittany Lions staff obviously left a lasting impact. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked as the No. 21 tight end in Ohio and the No. 26 tight end in the nation. He weighs 225 pounds and is 6-4, making him a four-star prospect according to ESPN and On3.
Kortovich’s visit on Saturday was his third time to Happy Valley; he had previously visited the campus in April 2023 and in June of this year. He made two trips to Purdue, but the Boilermakers lost the battle for Kortovich’s services since head coach Ryan Walters was no longer coming to West Lafayette.
The class of 2025 at Penn State, which will start officially signing players on Wednesday, now has 26 pledges and more are expected to follow.James Franklin Sgroup is ranked fifth in the Big Ten and 18th overall. Kortovich joins four-star prospect Matt Henderson as the class’s second tight end.
Andrew Olesh, a tight end from Southern Lehigh, Pennsylvania, who is committed to Michigan, has long been a target for Franklin and his staff. Kortovich’s promise might indicate that Olesh is sticking to his Michigan commitment.
