Abdul Carter, a defensive end for Penn State, struck the Heisman position in celebration after sacking Maryland quarterback MJ Morris in the third quarter on Saturday.
After the game, Carter remarked, “I think there’s a lot of hype and offensive players are thought to be the best in the country, but there are also defensive players who make just as much of an impact as the best offensive players.”
Although I believe Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty are excellent players in their own right, I have an even greater impact on the game than they do, and I believe defensive players ought to start receiving the same credit that we receive. I believe I am the best player in the nation, and the Heisman is the best player in the nation.
He responded, “Yes, without a doubt,” when asked if he believed he should be considered for the prize.
