White Out mode has been formally triggered for Penn State’s home playoff game, which should not be shocking.

The Nittany Lions’ social media pages declared on Sunday that they will play SMU in a White Out at Beaver Stadium on December 21.At 12:00 on TNT and MAX, the sixth-seeded Lions will play the eleventh-seeded Mustangs.

White Out was a logical choice for the first playoff game (and most likely any playoff game) played on Penn State’s campus, but it’s also noteworthy because it’s the first White Out to start at noon since a defeat to Michigan in 2015.

Additionally, it will be Penn State’s third White Out of the season, which is a very unusual situation. The official event was a 35–6 thumping of Washington on November 9. However, because the Fighting Illini were ranked, James Franklin also pushed for an unofficial White Out versus Illinois on September 28. It was a well-attended, typical White Out victory for Penn State, 21-7.

After losing the Big Ten Championship to Oregon on Saturday, Franklin quipped that there might be 16 inches of snow on December 21. Regardless, SMU will have to contend with at least one type of White Out situation.
