CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP One of the most well-known grocery stores in the nation, Wegmans Food Market, is expanding into the Pittsburgh area.

The firm, which is located in Rochester, New York, revealed on Monday that it intends to establish a 115,000-square-foot store on Cool Springs Drive in Cranberry Township, next to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Since opening our first Wegmans location in Pennsylvania more than 30 years ago, we’ve heard hundreds of requests for a Wegmans in the Pittsburgh area, Wegmans vice president of real estate and store development Dan Aken said in a statement. We are thrilled to have at last discovered the ideal site for Wegmans to open in the Pittsburgh region.

Walmart, Giant Eagle, Aldi, Target, Shop n Save, Sam’s Club, Costco, and B.J.’s Warehouse are just a few of the local grocery stores that will be disrupted by Wegmans’ first location in the Pittsburgh area.

Wegmans said in its announcement that a construction and opening schedule has not yet been finalized.

Developer Gary Sippel owns the 100-acre Cranberry Springs property, on which the shop will be constructed on a 13-acre plot of land. The property includes a TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel, a shopping area, and a Firebirds Wood Fired Grill restaurant in addition to the Lemieux complex.

Wegmans is renowned for its commitment to community and quality, and we are confident that it will be a fantastic addition for Cranberry Springs locals and tourists alike, Mr. Sippel said in a release.

According to Wegmans’ statement, the shop is anticipated to hire 400–500 individuals, the majority of whom will be local hiring.

For the past year or more, Wegmans has had their sights set on the Cranberry Township location. Additionally, a location in South Fayette Township, close to Bridgeville, was reportedly under consideration.

As of right now, the network includes 111 locations on the east coast. There are 19 in Pennsylvania, including one in State College and two in Erie.
