The state’s gaming board said this week that last year’s overall gambling revenue was Pennsylvania’s highest ever, surpassing the $6 billion mark for the first time and continuing the post-pandemic income trajectory.

According to data from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the total revenue of $6.14 billion for 2024 is an increase of nearly 7.7% over the about $5.7 billion in 2023.

The casinos’ internet services were the main driver of the growth, as seen by the so-called igaming income, which increased from $1.74 billion in 2023 to $2.18 billion in 2024. With $2.45 billion in sales last year—a little decrease from 2023—in-casino slot machines continue to be the biggest source of income.

While sports betting increased marginally to $510 million, breaking the half-billion barrier for the first time, casino table games also saw a little decline in revenue, coming in at $937 million. Fantasy sports competitions and truck stop video terminals generated $20.1 million and $41.2 million, respectively.

Because Pennsylvania has some of the highest gaming taxes in the country, taxes and fees from 2024’s gaming revenue came to $2.66 billion, according to the GCB, which is an effective rate of return of more than 43%.
