With his election as chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association, Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis will play a more significant role in his party on a national level.

Mr. Davis said in a statement that the party will have to put in a lot of effort over the next months to win back the trust of voters and provide a national program. We will continue to support the aggressive agenda of the Trump administration while delivering results for working Americans.

Mr. Davis, a 35-year-old McKeesport native, was elected as the state’s first Black lieutenant governor in early 2023. Since then, he has chaired the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, served as the state Senate’s president, and publicly supported Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration’s policies.

Along with his wife and children, Mr. Davis resides in Allegheny County. He formerly represented the 35th House District as a state lawmaker for two terms.

A month or two after the election on November 5th, in which Democrats suffered heavy defeats, he was elected to the national group.

According to the association, its leadership is dedicated to assisting Democrats in winning the 2025 elections in Virginia and New Jersey. It is the only group that is exclusively concerned with electing Democratic candidates and lieutenant governors.

Following this year’s election cycle, the work we undertake in our states and with our Democratic lieutenant governors couldn’t be more important, Mr. Davis added.

He will succeed Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, the outgoing association chair, who will remain on the organization’s executive committee, along with Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton. Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll of Massachusetts was chosen to serve as the association’s vice chair.
