Portland, ORA A winter storm that might affect travel through Friday is predicted to start Wednesday night and bring freezing rain and snow to portions of Oregon. This week’s cold weather will create dangerous conditions, especially along the coast, in the Portland metro area, and in the Columbia Gorge.
According to Portland’s National Weather Service, precipitation is expected to start as rain on Wednesday night and turn into freezing rain on Thursday morning. Wind chills that are extremely cold will be exacerbated by strong east winds, particularly in the Hood River Valley and its environs.
Thursday’s slippery roads and possible power cuts from ice buildup make travel inconveniences more likely. Throughout the week, temperatures will stay below normal, with chilly mornings in the 10s and 20s.
Another system might bring further snow by Friday night, prolonging the wintry weather over the weekend. Locals are advised to keep informed about forecasts, plan for ice roads, and allow additional time for travel. When traveling, authorities advise bringing emergency supplies such food, drink, and blankets.
