The Carlisle site of Yak n Yeti, which brought delectable Himalayan food to central Pennsylvania, announced on Wednesday that it is shutting.

A notice on the Facebook page states that the restaurant located at 49 W. High St. will close on December 29.

Tenzin Norbu, the owner, described the choice as challenging, saying, “It has been a bittersweet decision and it’s one we didn’t make lightly.”

The eatery was an offshoot of New Cumberland’s first Norbu’s Yak n Yet. Its Nepalese and Bhutanese cuisine soon made it a favorite among diners in the Harrisburg area.

In 2021, Norbu shuttered the New Cumberland facility due to a declining worker pool.He focused on establishing Norbu, a restaurant serving Nepali and Bhutanese food, at 38 N. Christian St. in Lancaster.

“This year holds a special place in our hearts at Yak n Yeti as we reflect on the past six years of sharing our beloved cuisine with this amazing community,” Norbu wrote in the Facebook post. We are incredibly appreciative of all of our clients, both local and international, whose encouragement and passion have enabled us to realize our dream.

We also want to express our gratitude to our amazing personnel. Their commitment and diligence have been the foundation of our success, particularly during changes, difficulties, and expansion. They have developed into family over the years, surpassing the status of coworkers. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Prior to starting Yak N Yeti, Norbu was an executive in New York’s diamond sector. There, he met his Lancaster-born wife, Sanya Yeh, and when they wanted to start a family, they moved to central Pennsylvania.

He explained that the reason the Lancaster restaurant opened was because so many people were traveling from Lancaster to New Cumberland via car.
