SIEGFRIED, VONNIE M.

On Sunday morning, December 29, 2024, Vonnie M. Siegfried, 76, of Elliottsburg, died quietly at Mercy House Hospice in Chambersburg.

Palmer M. McNaughton and Pauline Sweger welcomed her into the world on October 6, 1948, in Watts Township. Frances (Baker) McNaughton raised her with love.

She later worked at Genco Distribution System in Mechanicsburg after graduating from West Perry High School in Elliottsburg.

Her family and everyone who knew her will always cherish her memory. May the people she leaves behind find solace and motivation in her life.

She was Phillip E. Siegfried Sr.’s widow.

Two siblings, Glenn E. McNaughton (Donna) of Landisburg and Gloria Sweger-Haskins of Carlisle, three children, Yvette M. Siegfried of Shippensburg, Phillip E. Siegfried Jr. (Patti) of Elliottsburg, and Stephanie L. Siegfried of New Bloomfield, as well as eight grandchildren, Mike, Jake, Billy, Katie, Sydni, Eric, Bryanna, and Aaron, and four great-grandchildren, Donavin, Willow, Mia, and Brandon, are still living.

Palmer J. McNaughton and Kenneth L. Morrison, her two brothers, Pauline (Sweger) Sherman and Frances (Baker) McNaughton, and her father, Palmer M. McNaughton, all passed away before her.

At a later time, a celebration of her life will be organized.

LUPFER, Charles E.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Charles E. Lupfer, 93, of Airy View Road, Shermans Dale, passed away in The Bridges at Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg, to be with the Lord.

Harry and Eleanor (Owen) Lupfer welcomed him into the world on February 13, 1931, in Shermans Dale.

He was Dale, Mr. Sherman. He was a selfless, obstinate, philanthropic, industrious, community-focused, giving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He loved playing with tractors and other large machinery since he was a farmer at heart. He had previously served as a supervisor in Carroll Township, a member of the Farmers Bureau, and a board member of The Bank of Landisburg. He was a milk hauler and a member of Eastern Milk Producers, as well as the Oliver Tractor Club and Perry County Old Iron Collectors. He spent 64 years as a school bus driver and played a significant role in the Shermans Dale Fire Company and Ambulance Club.

After almost 70 years of marriage, he was the widower of Pauline (Frownfelter) Lupfer.

Allen Lupfer and his wife Kim, Timothy Lupfer and his wife Michele, and their daughter-in-law Darla Lupfer, both of whom live in Shermans Dale, are among the survivors, along with six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Dennis Lupfer, his son; Jeannette Fry, his sister; and Brandon Morrison, his grandson, all died before him.

Pastor George Kell presided over a celebration of life on January 6 at Young’s United Methodist Church in Shermans Dale, with help from Pastor Jeff Brewster. The church cemetery served as the burial site.

The arrangements were made by Boyer Family Funeral Home in New Bloomfield.

Shermans Dale Fire Company or Shermans Dale Ambulance are the recipients of memorial donations.

LEINAWEAVER, MYRTLE M.

On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Myrtle M. Leinaweaver, 90, of Duncannon, passed away at the Church of God Home in Carlisle.

On August 31, 1934, she was born in Duncannon to Joseph B. and Rosie Z. (Davis) Lilley.

She worked on her family farm after graduating from Duncannon High School until she was old enough to start working at the Duncannon garment factory. Later on, she moved into the C.A.I.U. as a teaching assistant, working in the school districts of West Perry, Susquenita, and Newport. Later, she was hired by the Bureau of the Census at the U.S. Department of Commerce. She continued to work a couple days a week in the office of Cromleigh Brothers in Duncannon after retirement.

In addition to being a very skilled seamstress, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her free time. She tracked her ancestry back to the early 1700s since she loved genealogy. She spent 20 years on the board of directors of The Perry Historians, where she volunteered. She belonged to the Newport Civic Club, Newport Legion Auxiliary, and Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, John Leinaweaver (Brenda) of Aloha, Ore.; a daughter, Jeanne Cromleigh (Ron) of Duncannon; two grandchildren, Jonathan Cromleigh (Jennifer) and Brittany Stoner; and four great-grandchildren.

Her spouse, James Leinaweaver, son, Leslie Leinaweaver, and thirteen siblings all passed away before her.

Union Cemetery in Duncannon was the place of burial.

Morrison, Scott D.

Scott Dale Morrison, 58, of Newville passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024.

He was born on March 21, 1966, in Carlisle to Charles D. and Donna L. (Ayers) Morrison.

He had a quick sense of humor and was deeply loved by many.

He was a 1984 graduate of West Perry High School. He was passionate about sprint car racing, N.Y. Yankees baseball, Washington Commanders football and Chevrolet.

He was employed by Fry Communications, Mechanicsburg, and previously worked for Heller s Gas, Amerigas, Meyers Logistics and Rite Aid.

In addition to his parents, surviving are a son, Coleton Dale Morrison, and two sisters, Sherri (Steve) Stambaugh and Shelby Cleland.

Cindy J. Reisinger, 16, of Elliottsburg passed too soon from this Earth into the arms of Jesus on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024.

She will be deeply missed.

MARILYN FREELAND

Marilyn Bumps or Bumpins Freeland, 83, formerly of Newport, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at Sarah Todd Nursing Home, Carlisle.

She was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Juniata County to the late Earl and H. Earlene (Zeiders) Robinson.

She was a 1959 graduate of Newport High School and retired from the Liquor Control Board.Other notable jobs she had included working at Campbell s Keystone Inn and the Hershey Hotel.

After an eight-year journey with dementia and up until the end, she maintained her kindness, grace, dignity, and love of family and friends. Her life can be encapsulated by four F words family, friends, food and fun. In her almost 84 years, she experienced an abundance of each. She was especially known for going on cruises and always was looking for the next person to go on trips with her. She had a love of camping and always had a dog by her side. She also greeted many persons, both known and those she just met, with You re beautiful, and was known to leave phone messages only to say, I love you.

Surviving are four children, Lois (Dan) Jernigan of Carlisle, Beth (Doug) Boop of Marysville, Amy (Tony) Martin of Thompsontown and Mark (Teresa) Freeland of Newport; a brother, Jerry Robinson of Newport; six grandchildren, Markelle (Deb) Gibbs, Diontae (Katie) Gibbs, Bryan Gibbs, Sara (Damian) Close, Mackenzie Martin and Bryce Martin; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dale Eugene, and a sister, Joyce A. Robinson.

A graveside service was held Jan. 5 in Newport Cemetery.

ANNA M. ZERBY

Anna Marie Zerby, 74, of Mechanicsburg entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1950, in Muncie, Ind., to the late E. Alexander and Bertha (Minnick) Baker.

Surviving are two sons, Kyler Zerby and Richard Karnes; two daughters, Lacey Smith and Staci Keller; a brother, Ole Baker; six grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Rider and Cleveland Baker, and a son-in-law, Michael Signor.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

CHARLES F. COUCHE JR.

Charles F. Couche Jr., 82, of New Bloomfield passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024. He was known as Charlie by friends and Buddy by even closer friends.

He was born July 28, 1942, in Philadelphia to Charles F. and Marie (Henry) Couche.

He was the owner of American Abatement Group, Inc. and made a point to hire local individuals. He was well respected by his employees and colleagues.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a lifetime member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. None of his pastimes could compare to his Philadelphia Eagles and when they won the Super Bowl, it made his dream come true.

Surviving are five daughters, Elizabeth Deaven, Barbara (Scott) Peifer, Lisa (Roger) Hockenberry, Patricia (Daniel) and Deborah Megonnell; a brother, Richard (June) Couche; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara (Mongrandi); a daughter, Suzanne; and a son-in-law, Timothy Deaven.

He was laid to rest beside his wife in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

JANICE M. HOWELL

Janice M. Nanny Howell, 79, of Creekview Drive, Newport, went to be with the Lord early Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at her Oliver Twp. home.

She was born June 12, 1945, in Newport to the late Leaman and Ethel (Murphy) Bitting.

She retired from Suburban Propane, where she was employed for 35 years. She really enjoyed her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She was the widow of Elmer E. Howell.

Surviving are a son, Elmer E. Doc Howell Jr. and wife Patty, and two daughters, Kandy J. Isenberg and husband Mike, and Brenda L. Gross and husband Chris, all of Newport; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Park and Wayne Bitting; a sister, Sally Snyder; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Salem.

A service was held Jan. 4 in David Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Gary Bellis officiating. A graveside service was held in Pine Grove Church Cemetery.
