According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears attempted to get Mike Tomlin as their next head coach through trade negotiations with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the Steelers turned down the offers.
According to Schefter, the Bears recently called the Steelers to ask if they could speak with and maybe try to trade for longstanding head coach Mike Tomlin, but Pittsburgh rejected their request.
Another team inquired about Tomlin, according to Schefter, but soon discovered that he had a no-trade clause in his contract and would not consent to much in that area. Tomlin will remain in Pittsburgh and hopes to become the head coach of the Steelers.
In response to questions on last week’s trade rumors, Tomlin advised suitors to not waste their time trying to sign him. In the summer, Tomlin agreed to a three-year contract deal that would keep him as head coach of the Steelers until 2027. He will receive $50 million over the next three seasons from that contract.
Tomlin is expected to return as head coach for another season and attempt to end the Steelers’ postseason streak, despite several calls for him to be traded or fired.
